It's a long season, folks

Have you ever been on a hike that just never seemed to end? Yes.
Have you ever NOT made it to the top of the mountain/destination? No.
Well, then Padres baseball is for you! The season is an entire 162 games and we have only played about one fifth of the season. The inconsistent Padres have been good at times yet they have also been pretty bad at times. Today, they have the Nationals. After beating them and Doug Fister in a water-logged game at Petco Park 8-3, we have lost 3 straight against the Nationals. This has plummeted our record under .500 since the first week of the season. Will the Padres ever get back to where they were in the middle of April? I sure hope so because the blame can be placed in several areas. For one, the pitching has allowed 25 runs in the last 3 games while scoring only 6. Will that bring W's? No. The coaching has shown some inconsistency too. With several injuries plaguing the starting lineup, Bud Black has brought out a new unique lineup seemingly every night. I watch other teams bring out the same lineup each and every night and have plenty of success because those players know what role they will play and what to expect at the plate and on the field. This link will send you to articles where solutions are given and the problems are in more detail. If I had a fantasy lineup with any Padres in it, the only one I would have in there would probably be Justin Upton because he has consistently hit the ball and hit well. Other than that, Myers is the only one that has been successful throughout the majority of the season.... But he is on the shelf until Tuesday or later with left wrist tendinitis. Who will step up? In order to make the playoffs, somebody it will take a team effort to win. The Padres have been involved in too many laughers. Lately it has been on the losing end and I am getting tired of it. This week will tell us if we can muster enough guts to show this town that it is time to win now.

In the NBA, the conference finals are set after the Rockets defeated the Clippers at the end of the series. Houston was down 3-1 and came back to win three in a row. Now both conferences will feature the number one seed taking on the number two seed. This means the Cavaliers will take on the Hawks and the Warriors will face the Rockets. This should be exciting to see the best team in the NBA after the Heat dominated the headlines the past 4 years (even though they only won the title twice).

Same Face, New Place

Image result for 2015 nfl draftWith the NFL draft surrounding a busy week in sports, the same old college stars are now moving on to the big show. Turns out, Jameis Winston was indeed taken first overall followed by Marcus Mariota. Their two respective organizations (Tampa Bay and Tennessee) face off in week one in Tampa Bay. What an anticipated matchup that is! Other highlights in the draft include Todd Gurley going number 10 overall, the first running back to be taken in the first round since 2013. As always, the draft is exciting and entertaining. And this year did not disappoint.

Image result for astros sweep padresHopefully, the Padres have finally fallen out of the funk that caused them to stare at the face of a losing opening month. After being swept by the Astros at Petco (who, by the way, is in the midst of a 10-game winning streak), the Pad-squad went on to sweep the Rockies. Tonight they head up to San Francisco and play the defending champion Giants. This 10-game road trip should test us as fans and as players. Hopefully we can come out of it with a winning record, especially since 7 of those games are against division opponents. Going off of my post from last week, I just wish to comment that I think Bud Black will not be back after the season if the team falls below expectations. If we make the postseason, he may still have life, but we will have to see what the ownership and GM AJ Preller think about it. Click here to see your Padres scores from this past week and throughout the entire year.

The first round of the NBA playoffs has come to a close. The Clippers beat the Spurs in 7 games after some questionable officiating and the Wizards finished off a sweep of the Raptors. Now the second round has began and the favorites (Golden State Warriors) have built a 1-0 lead on the Memphis Grizzlies. Chicago upset the Cavs in Cleveland and Washington continued its Magic in beating the Hawks in Atlanta Sunday. Something has got to give as the drama continues to unfold in the postseason.

Image result for pacquiao vs mayweatherThe biggest event of this past week has to be the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. Pay-per-view made about $4 million on this fight and it ended up a disappointment for Pacquiao fans, who claims to have fought with a dead shoulder. I did not watch the fight, but as a Pacquiao badnwagon fan, I wanted to see more out of it.

Feel free to leave a comment on what you believe was the biggest sports moment this week. Thanks!
