Two Months a Charm

I apologize for not posting here in the past couple of months. I have been so busy getting back to work (and getting married) that I have had zero time in posting on my blog. Hopefully I will be better now that I am back for the summer, because a lot has happened since I last posted.

First matter is the San Diego Padres. At the beginning of the season, they were borderline decent and I hoped for the first month that they could hang on and wait out the injuries that were plaguing the team. Well that did not happen and what compounded how bad we were came in just this past week. We were up 12-2 in the sixth inning. Easy victory, right? Nah, not this time. The Mariners decided to pull a fast one and come back to win 16-13. That was one of the most embarrassing games that I have ever witnessed in Padres history. Hopefully something good comes out of this draft with five picks in the top 100. We need talent and we need it fast. Ron Fowler was right when he said that this team's performance has been pathetic and embarrassing. I know that I am being negative about the Padres, but it's for good reason. I have never seen them be consistently good, meaning successful over a 5 year span or more. It has only been two or three years of decency that have shown me what they have until they trade away every last piece of talent in search of "the future" because those talented players on the Padres become "too expensive." Yeah, that future has never come. But I look on the bright side; when this team starts to win and set their sights on the playoffs, I will be the first one out there to show my support. I still support them everyday and want them to win everyday. So I'm not a Padres critic, I'm a Padres fanatic.

Meanwhile, the finals are in full swing, but the Cavaliers are not looking good against perhaps the best team in NBA history in the Golden State Warriors. Down 2-0, can they come back? Optimism Destroyed

So much for a competitive Padres season. I was hoping for some offense. I was hoping for some improved pitching, both in the bullpen and in the rotation. We got the latter (which was a major improvement from last season), but the former has been worse than it has ever been. Being shut out five times in the team's first 11 games is an outrage. We got shut out 19 times last season and were shut out three times in the entire season of 2004 when we missed the playoffs by one game. It's just sad to watch, you know? But hey, there is hope for optimism. We have Andy Green leading us. He is going to right the ship. The entire team is working incredibly hard to try and fix the problems but things just aren't working out. Pressing is the issue here. If the entire team would just relax and retain an aggressive approach at the plate, then we would be scoring four or more runs a night. Easier said than done, however. We will just have to wait and see how things turn out for the rest of the season. I have a feeling that things are going to turn around real quickly here. And when it does, watch out NL West. The NBA playoffs begin today! My prediction for the finals is the Warriors defeating the Cavaliers again, just like last year. It's a little sad that it is so predicable, but that seems to be the case again. The Raptors fell to the Pacers today already, which signaled the beginning to the playoffs. The Raptors have lost 7 straight playoff games dating back to 2014. It's looking like they will fall to the Pacers as well because Indiana looked pretty good. The Warriors are creaming the Rockets right now and it is looking like they will cruise to the next round. I doubt the Rockets will offer much resistance. But who knows, maybe a miracle can occur! Check out the rest of the NBA action on ESPN today and tomorrow.

The Masters tournament was sure exciting as well. Jordan Spieth held the lead for most of the weekend up until Sunday afternoon. The last few holes called for a collapse and the closely-following Danny Willett took home the green jacket instead of Spieth. The Masters tournament has so much rich history and prestige that it is something that even the non-avid golf fan ought to watch. I'm not saying that I am a super huge golf person because I am terrible out on the course, but I love watching the professionals.

Feel free to comment on your NBA finals prediction. Looks to be pretty exciting! Look for the Padres to rebound this week. I believe that we can do it. If you just believe, then together as a whole we will be able to lift this team to where nobody thinks they can go.

Christmas Day in April

I don't necessarily have a favorite holiday because I just never find a reason to celebrate nor do I find it worth it to get worked up about something that only comes once a year. Don't get me wrong, I love spending holidays with family and the reasons behind why people celebrate. So I'm not some holiday violator who does what he wants. But the most exciting day of the year for me has to be the first Monday in April, which is usually opening day. Opening day marks the beginning of six months of enjoyment of baseball! This year, there will be a few games on Sunday before the rest of the league opens up on Monday. The Padres host the Dodgers on Monday at 7 ET on ESPN. Will you be watching? Meanwhile, back on the field, the team seems to be doing better offensively. That is a good sign, but where is the pitching? This team has relied on this during the entire PETCO era. I mean, last year was an anomaly, right? Hopefully the pitchers actually hit their spots this year because, though the offense may struggle in comparison to last season, I believe pitching is what will carry this team into the postseason. All of the so-called "experts" are ruling out the Padres this year. I mean, it makes sense in a division made up of high-profile teams with talent. But who cares what they say. In the NBA, the Warriors are starting to chase history. With only six losses the entire season, chances are looking pretty good to beat the Chicago Bulls' NBA mark for season record, which ended at 73-9 in 1996. Right now, assuming the warriors win out, they would finish at 76-6. Talk about exciting! Will they make history? You may think that it will be easy. But keep in mind that two of their final six games are against the Spurs. But then again, Spurs coach Greg Popovich doesn't care at all about season statistics. He is concerned with winning, which may mean resting his stars during the last few games of the season. This will especially be true if the Spurs can no longer progress or regress in the standings to affect their playoff ranking. The playoffs begin in just about two weeks! Time to get excited
