Meet the unbeatens

Football is a pretty fun thing. You throw a piece of rubber through the air and somebody else on your team is supposed to catch it and reach the end of the field before anybody on the other team tackles you. It is pretty hard to do that more times than the other team, thus giving your team a victory. Well guess what, there are currently five teams in the National Football League who have done that every game this season.
-New England Patriots: The defending super bowl champions never skipped a beat from last year and seem to be even better. Critics who have blamed Tom Brady that he is getting old or that deflategate is getting to his head are now retreating to their man caves. The patriots play the Jets in Foxborough this Sunday.
-Cincinnati Bengals: Each year that QB Andy Dalton has led the Bengals to the playoffs, each season has brought a loss. With his team well on their way to making it back to the playoffs, can Dalton finally get over the hump and finally win in the postseason? The Bengals have a bye this week.
-Denver Broncos: It certainly hasn't been pretty, but Peyton's Broncos have won every game nonetheless. This extremely talented defense has really flexed its muscles in the eyes of scrutiny to prove that they have the ability to carry this team to an undefeated record thus far in the season. The offense? Eh, not so much. The Broncos are on a bye week this week.
-Green Bay Packers: Mr. Discount Double Check (aka Aaron Rodgers) has his team poised at another super bowl run. They are the favorites right now in my book. Both the offense and defense are clicking on all cylinders right now. Will they sustain it throughout the rest of the year? That remains to be seen. The Packers are also on their bye week.
-Carolina Panthers: Who knew that the team that finished below .500 last season yet won a playoff game would be where they are now. Cam Newton is just a freak to deal with as he is using all his weapons to win. One of those weapons is tight end Greg Olson. An impressive win in Seattle last week shows the potential that this team has. The Panthers host an uprising Eagles team on Sunday night.

College football also has its fair share of teams who are undefeated. Ranks 1-7 are undefeated (Ohio State, Baylor, Utah, TCU, LSU, Clemson and Michigan State) while #9 Florida State, #12 Iowa, #14 Oklahoma State, #18 Memphis, #19 Toledo, #21 Houston and #22 Temple are also undefeated. This week does not bring any top-ten match-ups but there are some intriguing games that have the potential to bring an upset.

-Washington vs. #10 Stanford, 10:30 ET, ESPN

Is baseball really this late to be discussed? I guess it had to be. But just look at the things that are going on in the playoffs. Who is this David Murphy guy? Seems like he single-handedly defeated the Cubs in a sweep of Chicago. With home runs in six straight playoff games, what else can he do? Now the Mets await their opponent and wait to see if they will face either the Royals or the Blue Jays. I personally favor the Royals because of their depth of talent. They have lots of power, lots of speed and lots of pitching. But so do the Mets. This should be an interesting. The Mets have not won the world series since 1986 and the Royals have not won it all since 1985. So we will have somewhat of a unique champion this year. Even if the Blue Jays come back and win the series, they have yet to win the world series since 1993. Should be pretty interesting.

The NBA is four days until the inception of the new season! Opening night features two great games as LeBron James and the Cavaliers travel to Chicago to take on Derrick Rose and the Bulls at 8 ET on TNT followed by Anthony Davis and the Pelicans taking on the defending champion Warriors at 10:30 ET on TNT. This season seems to be pretty exciting as the Cavaliers enter the season as favorites to win the title, especially after the team signed F Tristan Thompson to a 5-year, $82 million deal a few days ago. We will have to see who is the favorite to challenge the Cavs out of the east because as of right now, it is hard to find a team other than Chicago who has a shot. In the west, the Clippers and Spurs seem to be the favorite to challenge the defending champion Warriors. This is certainly time for an exciting year!

Win or go home

The playoffs. Every team wants to be there. Every team thinks they deserve to be there. But in all actuality, every team should just give up now and make way for the uprising Chicago Cubs. After all, it was predicted in the movie "Back to the Future 2" in 1989 that the Cubs would win the world series this year, 2015. Ironically they were to beat Miami, who did not have a major league team at the time. Besides, they are also in the national league. Anyways, back to the action. I will be brief. The Blue Jays came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Rangers in game 5. With a dramatic 7th inning, the home run by Jose Bautista is reminiscent of the one Joe Carter hit in the 1993 world series that won it all over the Phillies. The Astros were two innings away from sealing the deal against the Royals. But after a costly error by Carlos Correa, the team completely unraveled, losing the series in 5 games. In the national league, the Mets beat the Dodgers in 5 games, overcoming the difficult task of taking down both Kershaw and Greinke. But they did it. As a reward, they will face the Cubs, who beat the Cardinals in 4 games. The Cubs certainly showed that they belong as well. We will see how things shake out as Jon Lester takes the hill against Matt Harvey to start the NLCS tomorrow.

College football!!! Each week becomes more and more intriguing as teams fall left and right. Last night, 15 Stanford Cardinal dismantled 18 UCLA 56-35 in Palo Alto. As UCLA piles up the injuries, it will be interesting to see what happens come PAC-12 championship time. Who will take the south? Here are the intriguing games of week 7:

Of course there are some more great matchups this week involving non-ranked teams that I have not mentioned. Feel free to visit ESPN to view the complete FBS schedule. As I look at those mouth-watering games, it is going to be hard to do homework tomorrow.
